How To Pump Gas Safely At The Gas Station

You may have been getting gas for your vehicle for the past two to three decades or even longer. It has become such a habit that you may go through the routine without much thought. However, the team at Bob Tyler Toyota wants you to be safe even when pumping gas. That’s why we have laid out some rules from McIntosh Energy on how to pump gas safely at the gas station.
Stay with Your Car
You may want to grab a drink or snack from the convenience store or maybe even use the restroom if you are on a long road trip as you are pumping gas. However, it is important to wait until you are completely done pumping gas before you leave your car, so you can keep an eye on the pump handle. While it is encouraged to stay with your car as it is being filled up with gas, you do not need to sit inside your vehicle. Getting in and out of your car can generate static electricity, which can potentially be dangerous around a gas pump. Therefore, stand outside the vehicle with the car doors locked, so no one can slide into your vehicle from the other side. Also, stay alert always to your surroundings.
Leave Your Phone in the Car
While you are standing outside your vehicle, it may be tempting to have your phone in hand checking text messages or to play a game as you fill up. However, a good rule of thumb is to simply leave your phone in the car. As mentioned above, you want to avoid creating any electricity while pumping gas, which is exactly what can happen when using your phone as your pump gas. Another to reason leave your phone in the car is to help you focus on paying attention to your surroundings. You may feel safe pumping gas in your hometown, however, if you are on the road or visiting somewhere that you are not familiar with, take care to watch what is happening around you.

Clean Your Hands
Whether you are filling up after work and heading home or about to go out for the night, you should always wash your hands after pumping gas. The number one reason for washing your hands after getting gas is because gasoline contains harmful chemicals. The second reason is that there are so many germs on those pump handles. You do not want to eat or handle anything else with your hands before you clean them from any chemicals or germs that could have gotten on your hands.

Also A good idea to stay with your car when you’re pumping gas so that the guy on the other side of your pump doesn’t take the nozzle out of your car , fill up his tank , put the nozzle back in your car and drive off so you pay for his/her gas
