With the new year in full swing, you may have put on your vision board or list of resolutions to travel more. There is an entire world to explore and exciting adventures to embark on. Deciding where to go may be overwhelming when you consider all your options. It may help you to consider what you want to get out of this trip before you start planning. Whether you want to experience the culture, tour big and lively cities, play in the water, or take in beautiful landscapes, there is a destination that is right for you. Travel & Leisure offers advice on where you should plan your next trip. Discover where you’d like to venture in 2024.

A Cultural Experience

If traveling to charming villages straight out of a fairy tale or lively cities sounds like a dream to you, then you may want to spend a week or two in Germany. This country offers a unique cultural experience from its rich history to its offerings of food, drinks, and music. Explore places like Bavaria and Berlin as you immerse yourself in the culture that runs through this beautiful country. Take in the stunning countryside as you visit castles and museums in Germany.

If Germany does not sound like a place for you, two other destinations worth mentioning that offer a thrilling cultural experience as well are Rajasthan, India, and Cartagena, Colombia.

Metropolitan Excitement

Some love to travel to places that are filled with fantastic museums, theatres, and a buzzing nightlife. If you tend to gravitate to metropolitan areas when you travel, then you do not want to miss out on a trip to Paris. Whether you call it the City of Lights or the City of Love, Paris is certainly mesmerizing. When you are here you cannot miss a tour of the Louvre or Fragonard Musée du Parfum, stop in a cafe for a cappuccino and croissant, and of course, see the Eiffel Tower. At night, dine at one of the many fine French restaurants to enjoy gourmet cuisine.

If you’ve been to Paris before or simply want other metropolitan options, then you may want to consider Instanbul, the junction between Europe and Asia with its blend of cultures, or Bangkok, the Land of Smiles, which is bustling with energy.

Water Time Fun

For those who prefer water to land, there are many cruises to voyage on. Many countries also offer plenty of water time fun. Australia – the largest island in the world – is surrounded by water. There are many opportunities to surf off the coast of Sydney or scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef. While many are familiar with Sydney and the reef, there is one other place in Australia to explore – the Kimberleys. The Kimberleys sit in northwest Australia. There you can explore reefs and beautiful waterfalls. You will also discover a place where time seems to have stood still as you can encounter dinosaur tracks and other wonders.

Other places that offer fun water activities include the Douro River in Portugal and Coastal Norway. In Portugal, you can explore the countryside by boat, and along the coast of Norway, you can see stunning water features such as fjords and glaciers.

Naturescapes

While some want to be in the city, surrounded by water, or immersed in the culture, others visit faraway places to see vistas or landscapes that seem to belong to another world. It cannot be argued that New Zealand is a great place to visit to see such beauty. New Zealand has played the background for many spectacular films such as The Hobbit series, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and some of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It is not hard to see why. Take in the rolling hills and beautiful snow-capped mountains.

Other spectacular places to visit for splendid views include South Africa and Hokkaido, Japan.
