Spooky season is already upon us, and some of us may or may not be ready. While life may be hectic and moves pretty fast, there is no reason for the rest of your event and activity schedule for October to look like a horror show. Decorating with Pumpkins

The unofficial produce of the fall season is the durable pumpkin. The mighty gourd has been transformed into Cinderella’s stagecoach in the classic fairytale and with the proper tools, you can transform your pumpkin into funny, cute, and spooky designs. Whether your medium of choice is painting, etching, or carving, spend time with your children decorating pumpkins that you can display on your porch all season long. A good tip to keep your pumpkin around as long as possible is to wipe your pumpkins with Clorox wipes.

Find Your Way Through the Maze

During autumn, certain activities have to be checked off your fall checklist for you to have a successful fall season. One of those events in particular is going through a corn maze. Quite often you can find corn mazes at pumpkin patches, so you can kill two birds with one stone as you check off your fall to-do list. Corn mazes are a fun way to see if you have the skills to find your way out of a real-life puzzle. For those who think corn mazes are more catered for younger children, your older teens or young adults may want to venture into a haunted house to see if they can make their way through without getting scared.

Tag Your It!

In the fall, your kids’ energy level may be up with the excitement of knowing they can dress up and get candy, and we are certain that we don’t have to explain the effects of a sugar rush. A great way to burn off their energy is to have them and their friends play a game of tag. This simple backyard game can be taken to the next level this season, however, with two different varieties — Werewolf Tag and Flashlight Tag. Both of these games are played in the evening. With Werewolf Tag, the kids take turns hiding with one person being “the werewolf.” Even if a player is found, the werewolf must tag them for them to be a part of the werewolf pack. The last child to not be a werewolf is the “winner.” Flashlight Tag is a fun alternative if it gets too dark and the kids become a tad frightened as you can use flashlights while playing.

Who Are You Supposed to Be?

Of course, everyone knows that the spooky season revolves around Halloween. Halloween is a fun time to collect candy as well as use your imagination and creativity to pretend to be someone or something else for the night. Your kids may love the idea of dressing up with no real idea of who they are supposed to be. Halloween can be a great time to use a fun activity like dressing up to teach them about history or even classic characters from literature. While we are not telling you to make them write a report, it may be a good idea to talk to your kids and ask them questions to see if they comprehend who they are supposed to be, especially when they go out trick-or-treating for Halloween where others may ask them. Now, they can confidently answer as they show off their fun costume.
