Two packages, SX and Chrome package, were added to the 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR5 trim level. The Chrome package is available on the double cab with the five-foot bed. This package adds leather-wrapped shift knob, 18-inch polished wheels, tailgate logo, chrome door handles, and exhaust tips. The SX package adds trim details scattered throughout, black over-fenders, black badging, and black wheels with black lug nuts. An 8-inch infotainment system touchscreen, 360-degree camera, Smart Key, and power-adjustable driver’s seat were welcomed to the double cab Limited trim. Electric Lime Paint is now available on TRD Sport, and Solar Octane color is now exclusive to the TRD Pro off-road models.
The base engine is powered by a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The available engine is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard, and four-wheel drive and six-speed manual is available.
When properly equipped it can tow up to 6,800 pounds and has a maximum payload of 1,525 pounds. The bed of the truck is available as a 5-foot or a 6-foot-2-inch, and is paired with features like a deck rail system with four adjustable and four fixed tie-down points, composite bed liner, and lockable tailgate.
Depending on the configuration, the Tacoma can seat between four or five occupants. It comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, voice recognition, and more. Safety and driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure, and others are standard.
The Toyota Tacoma debuted in the U.S. in 1995, and replaced the Toyota Hilux, which in the U.S. was referred to as the Toyota Pickup. It was originally offered with three engine options, and since the original release the Tacoma has seen several changes. The third generation kicked off in 2015, and in 2020 the Tacoma saw a refreshed exterior design and updated interior and technology. Now in 2023, the Tacoma is built by Toyota in Mexico, and welcomes two new packages to the lineup.
