Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
More and more vehicles are being equipped with a variety of safety and driver-assistance features to give you a sense of security no matter where you drive. Toyota has created its own unique list of safety features known as Toyota Safety Sense, which is designed to help avoid collisions and reduce the likelihood of injury. Keep reading to learn more about Toyota Safety Sense and what it has to offer.
Toyota Safety Sense Features
Toyota Safety Sense helps avoid the three most common accident types – frontal collisions, unintended lane departure, and nighttime accidents. These safety features support the driver’s awareness while behind the wheel. Check out which safety features are included in the Toyota Safety Sense.
- Proactive Driving Assist – This feature helps drivers by providing gentle braking and/or steering when taking curves. This feature can help control the distance between your vehicle and another vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist.
- Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection – Your Toyota vehicle can help detect motorcyclists, vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians and can alert you using an audio/visual forward-collision warning under certain circumstances. The vehicle will automatically brake if you do not react to the alert.
- Automatic High Beams – This feature is designed to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles when you exceed 21 miles per hour. Automatic high beams will toggle between low and high beams depending on the scenario.
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control – This feature is intended for highway use and is an adaptive cruise control system created to be set at speeds above 20 miles per hour. Its main purpose is to use vehicle-to-vehicle distance control to maintain a preset distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you.
- Road Sign Assist – With the help of an intelligent camera, this feature can help detect speed limit signs, certain warning signs, yield signs, stop signs, and Do Not Enter signs and display the corresponding icon on the Multi-Information Display.
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist – Your vehicle uses the white/yellow lane markings or certain road-edge boundary lines to help detect the lane you are in when you’re above 30 miles per hour. When the vehicle detects your vehicle making an unsafe departure from the detected lane, it will alert you with an audio/visual warning. The system will provide gentle corrective steering for lane-keeping assistance if the driver does not take the corrective action.
- Lane Tracing Assist – This feature uses the lane markers on the road to provide active assistance and keep the vehicle centered in the lane. When lane tracing assist is activated, your vehicle will monitor the steering operations with the Emergency Driving Stop System. The Emergency Driving Stop System will bring your vehicle to a full stop if the driver does not respond to commands to resume control of the vehicle.
Other available safety features not included in Toyota Safety Sense are:
- Panoramic View Monitor – Uses cameras to create an overhead, panoramic view of your vehicle’s surroundings which can make parking and low-speed maneuvers easier.
- Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking – When you’re parking your vehicle, it will monitor your surroundings, and if it detects that your vehicle could make contact with an object or vehicle, it will send an alert, and in certain conditions, it may reduce engine power or apply the brakes.
- Star Safety System – This safety feature is a combination of features like vehicle stability control, brake assist, traction control, smart stop technology, anti-lock brake system, and electronic brake-force distribution.
Toyota also offers Safety Connect, which helps ease your stress when the unexpected happens. Safety Connect bundles features like a stolen vehicle locator, emergency assistance button, automatic collision notification, and enhanced roadside assistance.
