The 2024 RAV4 and the 2024 Escape are two-row compact crossovers, seating up to five adults. While the 2024 Escape offers a little more space, the 2024 RAV4 counters with more soft-touch materials and a well-designed dashboard.
Both compact crossovers have leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and powered driver seats on higher trims. The 2024 RAV4 has Toyota’s Softex® synthetic leather upholstery on higher trims. It also offers heated and ventilated front seats, plus heated outboard rear seats for added passenger comfort.
The 2024 RAV4 is the clear winner in terms of cargo space in this RAV4 vs. Escape matchup. It has a 37-cubic-foot trunk, while the 2004 Escape has a 34-cubic-foot unit. The 2024 RAV4’s trunk also includes a flat cargo floor with adjustable height functionality. Higher trims also include a tonneau cover.

The latter can do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, while the hybrid is rated for 7.4 seconds. Independent testers have noted that all trims have enough power for urban and highway driving. The RAV4 has also been described as being a stable handler when cruising, even at higher interstate speeds.
The 2024 Escape range starts with a 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. This powerplant makes 181 horsepower and drives the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional, as is a more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower. The 2024 Escape also has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that develops 210 horsepower. However, there is no off-road-oriented trim level. The base engine is grumbly and unrefined, according to independent testing.
The 2024 RAV4 comes with Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.5+ suite, which includes several active and passive safety technologies. Standard features include radar-guided adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The 2024 RAV4 also has lane-keeping assist, eight airbags, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The 2024 Escape includes some of these features as standard under its CoPilot 360 suite.
