Toyota Corolla Trim Level Review
The 2021 Toyota Corolla is a compact sedan with impressive fuel economy and tons of features to keep you comfortable, entertained, and safer throughout your commutes.
There are nine trim levels to choose from—one of them being a hybrid. Due to that, you may be wondering which configuration is right for your lifestyle near Pensacola, FL; Fort Walton Beach, FL; or Daphne, AL.
The team at Bob Tyler Toyota can help you with this endeavor. We created the following Toyota Corolla trim level review to break down the features offered in each version of this automobile. Read through the information review, then visit us to view these trim levels in person.
2021 Toyota Corolla L
First up in this trim level line-up is the Corolla L. While it’s the base trim, it’s anything but standard.
The vehicle comes with a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine that produces 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. Plus, with an EPA-estimated 30 city/38 highway MPG, it’s easy to go far in this automobile.*
There’s lots of room for five people with 88.6 cubic feet of passenger volume. Plus, with 13.1 cubic feet of trunk space, as well as a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, you’ll have plenty of room for groceries, luggage, and other personal belongings.
Combine all these specs with convenient features, such as a tilt/telescopic 3-spoke steering wheel, and you’re sure to enjoy any trip inside the Toyota Corolla.
LE & Hybrid LE
The next trim, the Corolla LE, is the only one that’s also available as a hybrid. The LE comes with the same performance specs as the L trim, which includes a Continuously Variable Transmission.
The Hybrid LE, meanwhile, comes with the 1.8L 4-cylinder engine and an Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission. Together, they help the car achieve an EPA-estimated 53 city/52 highway MPG—helping you get to your destination without running out of fuel.*
Like the base trim, these two come with Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0. This suite of driver-assisting technologies uses cameras and radar to detect if a collision may be imminent. It’ll then send warnings and even step in to act to help prevent you from getting into an accident.
Then, there’s the 2021 Corolla SE. This is the first trim level to offer a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. With 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, it provides an engaging drive along with a smooth ride and stable handling. This comes with the Dynamic-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission.
Furthermore, this trim has the most efficient performance out of all the non-hybrid options. It has an EPA-estimated 31 city/40 highway MPG to help make driving to work, the store, or a vacation spot easier.*
The SE also comes with an Audio infotainment system that showcases various media options on an 8-inch touchscreen. Smartphone users will especially love the Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ smartphone integration feature. Plug your mobile device into the car’s USB port to access your favorite apps and hear everything clearly through the vehicle’s 6-speaker sound system.
SE Nightshade Edition & SE Apex Edition
The SE Nightshade Edition and SE Apex Edition are similar to the SE with their lists of features. However, the biggest differences come with their exterior appearances.
The Corolla SE Nightshade Edition comes with a sport mesh Black front grille with Black bumper and surround. With the SE Apex Edition, you’ll find that same grille, but with a Bronze/Black front spoiler and C-shaped accents. Add on Black door handles and Black outside mirrors to either model, and the sleek and modern-looking vehicle will surely turn heads.
Inside either trim, you’ll find premium sport seats with sport fabric inserts. Not only does it look cool, but the Nightshade 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and the Apex 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat provide all-day comfort behind the wheel.
2021 Corolla XLE
You then have the Toyota Corolla XLE, which is the first trim to come with heated front seats. Both you and your co-pilot can keep warm on even the chilliest of mornings. You can also feel comfortable, thanks to the automatic climate control system with dust and pollen filter.
The infotainment system gets a bit of an upgrade, too. You now have the Audio Plus system with an All Access trial of SiriusXM® Satellite Radio. This feature provides well over 100 news, comedy, and commercial-free music stations.
Combine that with Wi-Fi Connect, and everyone on board will have tons of ways to stay entertained on your daily trips.
Toyota Corolla XSE & XSE Apex Edition
The last two trims, the XSE and XSE Apex Edition, have truly impressive lists of features and design elements.
For starters, there’s the metallic interior trim with chrome interior door handles. You’ll be sure to notice the Bronze interior trim stitching in the Apex Edition, too.
The Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging pad is available in the XSE and allows you to leave your phone cables at home. There are two USB ports up front in both trims to keep multiple devices charged up.
The XSE is also available with a Premium Audio infotainment system. It comes with Dynamic Navigation to help you get from Point A to Point B quickly. Plus, with a 9-speaker JBL® sound system, your turn-by-turn directions, music, and phone calls will come through the cabin in crystal-clear sound.
